The Helen Creighton Folklore Society’s present activities

• We are pleased to be a co-sponsorship of the Annual Ghost Story Writing Contest which has been facilitated and co-ordinated by the Alderney Gate Branch of the Halifax Public Library. For more information, visit: Alderney Gate Public Library
• Each year, the Helen Creighton Folklore Society sponsors awards to students entering folk music categories at the New Glasgow Music Festival [Helen Creighton Folk Art Award] and the Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival http://www.hfxmusicfest.com/
• The Helen Creighton Memorial Foundation, which is called the Grants-in-aid Committee of the Society, provides grants to groups and individuals for projects relating to folklore research, collection, and publication.

This is an exciting time of growth for the Society as we prepare to publish a CD and information booklet of Acadian songs from Dr. Creighton’s collection and work towards hosting the Annual General Meeting and Conference of The Canadian Society of Traditional Music in November, 13-16, 2008.
