Every spring, the Helen Creighton Folklore Society (HCFS) has offered small monetary awards to winners of folk music and speech classes in provincial music festivals in Nova Scotian schools. Now these awards are also offered to the provincial music festivals in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. To qualify, students must perform a piece from the Helen Creighton collection.
In 2024, HCFS gave $400 in awards but, thanks in part to the availability of our Traditional Folk Songs songbook, in 2025 the HCFS gave 12 awards of $50 each to students in Nova Scotia. Including those who tied and shared their awards, they were: Lily Arthurs, Saryn Bezeau, Norah Bonnell, Thea Cavicci, Evalyn Cumminger, Adam Davis, Easton Goodwin, Rylan Hislop, Aurelia Jackson, Aria Melong, Theodore Sommers, Scarlett Whynot, Calliana Zwicker, and the Sandy Lake Academy Elementary Choir. We congratulate them, and wish them continued success.
